As a part of the Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal, the amount of aid let into Gaza has vastly increased, though it is still not nearly enough to support Palestinians. Among those displaced includes an estimated 155,000 pregnant or breastfeeding women, 5,500 of whom are expected to deliver in the next month.
As women have migrated from countries like Venezuela, Honduras, and Haiti, a network of midwives have assembled at various points to assist pregnant individuals along the journey. An estimated 60-70% of female migrants crossing Mexico experience sexual violence. Therefore this form of support that provides healthcare, nutrition, and birth control has proved vitally important for protecting women and expecting mothers.
