Readings

Gisele Pelicot

Gisele Pelicot’s trial has concluded with a total of 51 men being convicted of various forms of sexual violence. The highly publicized case has gained attention around the globe. Throughout the trial, Pelicot wore a scarf gifted to her by the Australian Older Women’s Network made by Manyjilyjarra woman, Mulyatingki Marney.

This article by Megan Clement thoughtfully puts into words the difficulty of understanding this trial, engaging with it, and reflects on why, despite the prevalence of sexual violence in France, Pelicot has been uniquely listened to.

Protests in Tbilisi

Protests in Georgia are continuing into their fourth week in support of an EU future for the nation. These demonstrations have also highlighted the prevalence of threats and violence against LGBTQ+ and women’s rights in the country.

Some of the most distributed images of these protests have been of women, who have been at the frontlines for years
